Yakity Yak ClubThe Yakity Yak Kayak Club was formed in 1994 when John Maynard and Pete Townend, instructors from the Auckland Kayak School (now known as Canoe and Kayak Ltd) discovered that of the hundreds of new paddlers they trained, most were not continuing with the sport. The overwhelming reason given was that they had no one to paddle with, plus many new paddlers didn’t actually own kayaks. So the Yakity Yak Kayak Club was formed and has quickly grown into New Zealand’s largest kayak club with over 900 members
All club members complete an enrolment kayaking course run by Canoe & Kayak, so we know all are safe on the water and new paddlers get to know each other during the enrolment weekend. Many members continue their training to become trip leaders, their enthusiasm for kayaking is contagious as they organize club trips ranging from a leisurely paddle after work to multi day trips touring our stunning rivers, coastlines or off shore islands.
Apart from meeting great people and having fun on kayaking trips, some of the other many benefits of joining the Yakity Yak Kayak Club include:
