WHITE WATER STAGE THREE
 
RIVER SKILLS

This course builds on the skills taught and confidence gained on the STAGE ONE AND TWO WHITE WATER COURSES, by developing your skills, technique and confidence on faster moving white water. Including, eddie turns, ferry gliding, rolling and surfing and building new skills in River Rescue techniques and River Reading.  

 
 
PROGRAMME

SATURDAY: 8.30 AM MEET AT CANOE & KAYAK New Plymouth :

DEVELOPMENT OF WATER CONFIDENCE, PADDLE STROKES, RIVER READING AND RESCUE TECHNIQUES. Venues Upper Waitara or Waiwakaiho . This may change depending on water levels, possibly travel to the Rangitikei river, this will mean possibly staying the night.

 

During this session we will encourage you to try out fun skills and techniques that will continue to build your confidence and skills these include. Current control, ferry gliding, eddy turns, rescues and some combat swimming along with basic rope techniques. We stop for lunch.

PM:

Continuing to develop kayak control and paddle skills along with river reading skills in progressively faster moving water. Returning at 4pm to Canoe & Kayak Waitara.

 
SUNDAY: 8.30 AM  - MEET AT CANOE & KAYAK  New Plymouth:

ADVENTURE:

We travel to the most suitable river with each rapid giving the paddler plenty of opportunities to develop their skills. On most rapids it is possible to walk back up the sides allowing you to rerun a rapid many times, ironing out any areas that may be causing you problems.

INFORMATION
BRING: Warm changes of clothes, polypropylene or woollen tops and bottoms, wetsuit if you have one, windproof and waterproof jacket, hats for sun and cold, sun cream, sun glasses (a cord is recommended to prevent loss), wet weather foot wear -old sandshoes or dive booties.
Kayak and equipment hire, and instruction are included in the fees. Accommodation and food are extra.

BOOKING CONDITIONS
  • No credits will be given for courses cancelled or transferred two days before commencement of the course. Refunds will not be given.
  • If for any reason the course cannot go ahead as scheduled, participants will be transferred to another date.
  • Participants in courses acknowledge that kayaking has inherent risks and assume all responsibility for any injuries incurred.
  • Participants must follow all instructions given to them by Canoe & Kayak staff.
