White Water course

WHITE WATER STAGE ONE
INTRODUCTION TO WHITE WATER
Taranaki
A comprehensive course designed to cover the skills required to become a technically correct paddler. The course is arranged in a progressive manner to allow you to develop the techniques and your confidence at an enjoyable pace with great end results.
 
PROGRAMME
 
7.00 pm MEET AT New Plymouth Aquatic centre (Kawaroa park): WET EXITS, WATER CONFIDENCE AND RESCUE TECHNIQUES
In a heated pool we teach you about the easy ways of entering and exiting a kayak along with the methods of self and group rescues all in the beautiful warm waters of the pool.
Saturday morning 9am at the Canoe and Kayak New Plymouth store.
Then on Lake at Waitara we work on paddle strokes, boat control and group and individual rescue.
After Lunch we paddle on the lower Waitara river to give you an introduction to moving water, eddies and currents and to familiarise you with the river for Sunday. Return to the Canoe & Kayak shop at 4pm
 
SUNDAY: 9.30AM MEET AT CANOE & KAYAK   NEW PLYMOUTH STORE (or previously arranged meeting place): CURRENT CONTROL
We start the day paddling from Spargo Road on the Waitara River developing moving water skills and safety techniques on moving water. The focus for the day is gradual progression allowing skills and confidence to grow
INFORMATION
BRING: Warm changes of clothes, polypropylene or woollen tops and bottoms, wetsuit if you have one, windproof and waterproof jacket, hats for sun and cold, sun cream, sun glasses (a cord is recommended to prevent loss), wet weather foot wear -old sandshoes or dive booties.
Kayak and equipment hire, and instruction are included in the fees. Accommodation, transport and food are extra.

BOOKING CONDITIONS
  • No credits will be given for courses cancelled or transferred two days before commencement of the course. Refunds will not be given.
  • If for any reason the course cannot go ahead as scheduled, participants will be transferred to another date.
  • Participants in courses acknowledge that kayaking has inherent risks and assume all responsibility for any injuries incurred.
  • Participants must follow all instructions given to them by Canoe & Kayak Ltd staff.
