3 weekends river kayaking instruction
A comprehensive package of courses and coaching designed to progressively build YOUR kayaking skills to a Grade Two Racing Certificate level.
Weekend One: Introduction to white water, beginning with a pool session at the New Plymouth Aquatic center covering water confidence, self and buddy rescues then onto a lake or sheltered water covering paddling technique and boat control, moving onto the Waitara river working with current, river reading and rescue skills. demo equipment included.
Weekend Two: Giving a full day to wing paddle technique, setting up your multisport kayak and trying different kayaks, based on the Waitara river the next day covering again River Reading and white water Skills. On the second day you will cover more on river rescues, self and others and continuine to build your confidence and skills. demo equipment included. You will need to have your own kayak and equipment by weekend 3 (or a hire option available)

A comprehensive assessment of your Grade Two river racing skills and knowledge will be carried out in your planned race day kayak. assessments held on stage 3 weekends Regular Additional Coaching Weekends and Support Waimakariri Familiarisation Trips Take the stress out of Race Day - run the river with a Canoe & Kayak Instructor Hire of sea kayaks included - pick-up/drop offs from/to christchurch $350 (2 days recommended) for further details contact your Canoe & Kayak Centre (special conditions apply)
