Day 2-Drive to LakeTarawera and get kayaks on the water at Boatshed Bay. Paddle down the northern side of the lake to the Tarawera Outlet DOC campsite (approx 16km). Spend the night camping.
Day 3-In the morning we will walk to the spectacular TaraweraFalls and then return to the camp. A 10km return trip. In the afternoon we will kayak to the Hot Water Beach DOC campsite and stay the night. (approx 11km). Natural hot springs under the sand provide a relaxing, warm swim and you can dig your own bath in the sand. The body might need it after a big day.
Day 4-Today we will leave our tents set up at Hot Water Beach and kayak (approx 1.5km) to the track that links Lake Tarawera to Lake Rotomahana, (where the Pink and White Terraces are covered) and portage the kayaks over to the lake. Portage approx 700m. We will paddle around Lake Rotomahana (20km) and return back to Hot Water Beach and spend the night. Lake Rotomahana has a great deal of thermal activity around it's shores and will be a very interesting place to kayak.
Day 5-We will paddle the rest of the way around Lake Tarawera to the get out point at Boatshed Bay (approx 15km) and return to the Blue Lake Camp. Tonight we could take a trip into Rotorua and enjoy a nice dinner out.
Day 6-Today we will make our way back to Wellington for a much needed rest. Arriving at around 5pm.
We will be traveling by van. It will be 2 nights of accommodation at Blue Lake in cabins and 3 nights camping around the lake edge. All camping gear will be required for the kayaking part of the trip.
Trolley wheels will be needed for the portage.
