Taupo - River Safety Course

Saturday AM
Meet at C&K Store 8am: A quick brief over a cuppa followed by some theory. From there we head off to Waikato River. During the morning we cover: Group control and risk management, river signals and hazard awareness, Eskimo T rescue, barrel rolls and X rescues.

 

PM After lunch at Reid's Farm we go on to learn: Cows tail release under tension, pro’s and cons of use, slings vs. cows tails, throw bagging, knots, throw bagging swimmer in WW float position (body belay and walk downstream), swimmer with kayak and gear, disabled kayaker ferry glide with and without towline,
rescue unconscious victim, combat swims and debrief. River Rescue DVD at shop during lunch.
 
Sunday AM/PM
Meet at C&K Store 8am: After a short brief we head straight to Reid's Farm, where we continue to learn....Group rescues covering leadership, setting up stabilisation and snag lines to rescue a foot entrapment victim, pinned kayak recovery, rope systems including Vector Pulls, river crossing group and solo with and without paddle and strainer drills. Cost: $350 for 2 days
