Held over a weekend with an overnight camp we utilise the weather to maximise your learning, the course structure is as follows:Line_Up2.jpg

PROGRAMME

SATURDAY 9.00AM MEET AT SULLIVANS BAY, MAHURANGI: PLANNING AND PREPARATION
Here we will teach you about planning and trip preparation including weather forecasts, chart reading, compass bearings, camp bookings and equipment packing.

PACKING YOUR KAYAK AND GROUP MANAGEMENT SKILLS.
Departs Sullivan’s Bay Mahurangi Harbour for DOC campsite. This session takes you through the correct methods of packing a sea kayak including load distribution and waterproofing. Also covered is the on water management control to keep your group safe.

PADDLE SKILLS
During the day we will focus on various paddle strokes and improve your technical performance and efficiency.

RESCUES AND TOWING (by camp site)
This session takes you through the self and group rescue skills including paddle floats, X and H rescues and re-enter and roll for those who can roll. Also the setting up of effective towing systems and the use of slings and stirrups.

SUNDAY 8.30AM: PADDLE, KAYAK SKILLS AND SCENARIOS
During this session we will work on developing your paddle strokes, hip steering and rudder control, along with lots of scenarios to allow you to practise your new rescue skills.

COURSE FEES $349.00 or $279.00 for Clubbies
Evening Meal and Accommodation costs are included in the fees.
