Waitakere Dad's Day Out - AucklandHenderson Creek Cleanup - every year we help the Te Atatu Endeavour Sea Scouts with their clean up of the Henderson Creek. Saturday 3rd March 10.00am-1.00pm with shared kai afterwards. Location: Tui Glen Reserve Jetty, Claude Brooks Drive, Henderson. We usually paddle up the creek and supervise the scouts and others who are on sit-on-tops, ensuring that no-one gets into difficulty. Usually a pleasant day out with a bit of gentle exercise, doing some good in the community. C&K also provides a trailer load of kayaks for them to use.
Dad's Day Out Big Cleanup Event - 5 September, 12noon - 4pm. This is a day out for dads and kids. This event is being held at Tui Glen and there will be a big cleanup of Henderson Creek. We have been asked to provide on-water volunteers for safety. If you are interested in helping out, please contact the shop auckland@canoeandkayak.co.nz UPDATE 4 SEPTEMBER
We have a plan - head down Te Atatu Rd, at the big roundabout turn left into Taikata Rd, go to the end of that and there is a boat ramp. Chris went down this morning to check it out and it looks OK at low tide. Meet about 10 for 10.30am launch. I have talked to Joya and we are keen to carry on with the cleanup theme, so I am going to tow a sit-on-top and we will collect rubbish as we go. Suggest that we each take a couple of big black rubbish bags so that we can load the sit-on-top to its max. We will get up to Tui Glen about 11.30 to allow for lunch before the start of the official activity at 12. If you don't want to do more cleaning up with us, you are welcome to go off for a paddle, or whatever you wish. Or do your own thing and see you at Tui Glen at midday.
