Skills Development Camp
Skills Development Camp 11 & 12 November (Thursday & Friday). To be run by the Taupo shop.
Hi Intrepid Paddlers
We have just had an AWESOME couple of days paddling in Taupo and on the Mohaka. We had 30 paddlers (staff & leaders) on the river who had a total blast. The Development camp was such a success we are opening the doors to all you clubbies to come and have a go at river paddling.
We are planning this for the 11 and 12 November 2010 We will meet at the C&K Taupo store at 8am and head on down to the Waikato where you will be introduced to moving water and shown the basics of river paddling. In the afternoon we have a wet session of rescue practice and kayak rescue drills. On the second day we head to the Mohaka River to experience grade 2 and use the skills learned the previous day. Expect to get wet and have heaps of fun learning these new skills. It is an excellent couple of days tuition on how to be safe when paddling on the fine rivers we have in abundance here in NZ.
We will cover all aspects of river kayaking including-
River reading
River kayaking skills
Rescues including, throw bagging, combat swimming, white water float position, and kayak rescues
Safety in and around the river
Group management
Weather
Technique
Shuttles (very confusing for some)
The Course will be progressive with the emphasis on fun and safety. It is open to any Yakity Yak member who doesn't mind getting wet and giving it a go!!
Cost $350 for 2 days....Accomodation will be available at Bradshaws Lodge $25 per person per night. 07 3788288. Do your own booking and tell them you are on a C&K Course.
Testimonial - Larraine and Todd can confirm that this is indeed a most excellent couple of days - structured in a progressive manner with plenty of time for practice and photos. You can use sea kayaks or white water kayaks. Photos... Register with auckland@canoeandkayak.co.nz |
