Winter Training Programme

We are running a winter training programme designed to upgrade your skills and knowledge.  You have the option of doing just some of the sessions, or as an incentive, you can do them all at a greatly discounted rate.  This programme will then be followed by some additional sessions specifically for those who wish to become trip leaders. 

Weather – gain a better understanding of what all those wavy lines and symbols mean on a weather map, and how to interpret them. 7 May. Details...

Rescues, Tows and Advanced Paddle Strokes – perfect your rescues and paddle strokes and add to your repertoire.  Learn enhanced rescue techniques to cope with various situations, and more paddle stokes to better manage your kayak. 1.5hr pool session 22 May, and 1 day on-water 27 May.  Details...

NZKI 1 Star Assessment - 30 minute multi-choice exam and 2 hour on water practical assessment, covering the skills and knowledge learnt on your sea kayak skills course, and the above. 17 June. Details...

Coast Guard Marine VHF Operators Qualification - this enables you to operate a VHF radio within New Zealand.   Details...

Coast Guard Day Skippers - this is a 5 evening programme culminating with the assessment which involves a written and practical exam. 2, 4, 5, 9, 11 July.   Details...

Each course can be done individually at the cost shown or if you enroll for them all then the cost will be $450 instead of $660.

Leader's Programme - to be a leader in the Yakity Yak Club you will need to have your NZKI 1 Star, a VHF radio license and a current First Aid Certificate.  Following the above programme we will run additional sessions FREE for those wanting to become trip leaders.  This will includes topics such as Risk Assessment, Group Management, Kayak Maintenance, Trip Planning etc. Details...
