Auckland Yakity Yak Club
Yakity Yak Kayak Club We are a friendly bunch of people who are always heading out on exciting paddling adventures, exploring this beautiful country of ours. We cater for all levels of experience from beginners to advanced. You don’t need your own kayak as you can hire one from us if you choose.
To join the club you must complete an introductory sea kayak training course. This covers paddle and rescue techniques, as well as theory on topics such as trip planning, equipment, weather etc. The course is suitable for complete beginners. If you already have some skills, we will take those to the next level.
If you are not yet a club member but are keen to get involved just call in to the shop at 502 Sandringham Rd Auckland, or phone us on 09 815 2073 and have a chat. Beginners Trips - we have trips suitable for beginners in conjunction with our Skills Course. This is an ideal way for new paddlers to gain experience and fitness while under the watchful eye of our experienced instructors. Intermediate & Advanced trips - these trips run throughout the year and include destinations such as Tiritiri Matangi, Lake Waikaremoana, Motuihe, circumnaviation of Rangitoto, and anywhere else you would like to go. Evening Paddles during the summer months. Meeting after work, we have dinner on a beach somewhere, often returning at dusk.
Surfing at Orewa during the summer months. We take a trailer load of sit-on-tops, white-water kayaks and sea kayaks, and go and play for a couple of hours. This is great fun and a great way to improve your skills. If you haven't done this before we will show you how.
Intermediate Skills Courses include Weather, Navigation, VHF Radio, Paddle Skills, Rescues & Towing. Practice Nights - Every Tuesday night at the pool you may come along to practice your Eskimo Rolling, rescues, or anything else you wish. This will cost you just $10 per session which includes the pool entry fee (payable to Russell). Let us know you are coming to ensure that we have enough gear.
Club Night - this is held at the shop on the second Wednesday of every month. Come along and meet your fellow clubbies, have a wine or beer, and plan our upcoming trips. We frequently have a speaker or demonstrate new products - we always have a laugh.
Leader's Course - every year we run a Leader's Course for those who are keen to be involved. |
