Hello and welcome to Canoe & Kayak Bay of Plenty. We're a friendly bunch, here in the Bay and as an independently owned shop we aim to give you the best choice and best advice and service on all types of canoes, kayaks and accessories.
All our staff are experienced kayakers and can advise you on all aspects of the sport, whether you're a beginner or advanced paddler, to ensure you make the right purchase and enjoy your time out in your kayak.
We run a range of kayaking courses to suit all abilities, from half day Taster Sessions, to 2 day skills courses in sea kayaking or white water. Your safety on the water is our priority as well as learning and having fun at the same time.
Our kayaking tours are very popular and great way to spend a day doing something different. The classic 'Round the Mount' tour, with views of the iconic Mauao, Matakana Island and Rabbit Island is always a winner, with seals, penguins and dolphins often making an appearance. The evening 'Glowworm Canyon' tour is a magical trip up a lake and in to a canyon at night fall, where thousand of glowworms reside. We have other tours too, including a day trip up Lake McLaren or perhaps for the more adventurous 'Kayak Fishing'.

Our kayak club offers something for everyone with sea kayking, whitewater kayaking and kayak fishing.
We are also the Roof Rack Centre and supply a range of roof racks, roof boxes and accessories to most vehicles.
We have everything you need under one roof and if you can't find what you're looking for on the website or in store we will do our best to help and supply you with what you need. |

Meet the Team

Dave Atkins moved to New Zealand in March 2011 after working in the kayaking industry in manufacturing and retailing for the last 12 years in the UK.
From a young age he paddled in K1 racing kayaks and then competed in slalom and his skills developed in to white water kayaking. He is a skilled sea kayaker too and has a passion for kayak surfing here in the Mount.
As an instructor Dave is keen to see people try all aspects of the sport and develop their skills in a structured but fun way.

Estelle Leyshon has always wanted to live in New Zealand and after many visits made the Bay of Plenty her home. She worked at as the retail manager of a large canoe & kayak shop in the UK for many years and decided to run her own shop here in the Bay. She is a more recreational paddler, with a passion for open canoeing and sea kayaking. However, she learnt in white water kayaks and still enjoys jumping in a short kayak every now and then.
She's keen to see families take up the sport and for kids to learn the good kayaking skills early on. You'll find her on many of the Yakity Yak Club trips taking many photos along the way.

Daniel Moses recently joined the team at BOP after working for Canoe and Kayak Taupo for the last 3 years. With lots of experience in the outdoor industry, working as a ski instructor and then in Abel Tasman he has gained over 10 years kayaking experience. Dan is a skilled white water instructor and loves nothing more than teaching people on moving water. He is, however, passionate about kayak fishing too and given the opportunity he'll be out catching his dinner on the sea. He is keen to get more people out kayak fishing and is the man to see for outfitting your fishing kayak.

Robbie Banks has been a sea kayak instructor for many years after falling in love with the sport. She is a very talented coach and gets the best out of people even when they are very nervous. She has tons of experience of planning trips, navigation and weather/ tide conditions so is keen to pass this on so people are safe on the water. She has pushed herself in many sea kayaking challenges around our coast and continues to have a passion for sea kayaking no matter what the weather!
Robbie runs most of our Sea Kayaking Courses and often joins us on Club trips. |

Rush and Brock are as much part of the team as everyone else and can be found in the shop on most days. These Border Collies love to play are will keep adults and children entertained for hours! You may see them out on a kayak every now and then too. |
