Lake McLaren Kayak Tour

Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake McLaren tucked away in the stunning Kaimai Range. This gentle paddle explores the waterways and stunning canyons leading in to the lake, which are only accessible by kayak. It is ideal for families and those wanting their first taste of kayaking in beautiful surroundings.
On first appearance this calm, serene lake doesn't show it's secrets. As we paddle up the lake through parkland, learn about the native birds and plants surrounding the lake shores.

As the entrance to the lake narrows and the vegetation changes to native bush, the sides steepen. The surrounding native bush is home to the threatend native North Island Brown Kiwi and the North Island Brown Robin. The bush is alive with the noise of birds and insects.
We continue to explore 2 of the channels in to the lake both with stunning rock formations. Via the second we enter the amazing canyon and sit and relax taking in the breath taking scenery. The canyon is a truly magical place that both adults and children enjoy and is special as it can only be reached by kayak.

From Tauranga it takes about 25-30 minutes. Get on to State Highway 29, which is the main road to Hamilton from Tauranga and follow for several kilometres out of town. You will travel alongside and then over the Wairoa River, the highway rises, dips and rises again. You will see a brown sign for McLaren Falls Park, turn left opposite the sign into McLaren Falls Road.
